Editorial: Farewell to Co-Editor Associate Professor Tom Daly

Today is bitter-sweet for the IACL-Blog Team, and in particular for us as co-editors. In fact, along with the launch of a superb new symposium on 'Social Rights During and After COVID-19' and a blog post by Stan Winer on the complexity of democratic choices, we celebrate incredible growth in the readership numbers of the blog. But today we are also saying farewell (at least, formally) to someone who has played a significant role in helping grow the blog into what it has become: our co-editor Associate Professor Tom Daly.  

Since 2018, Tom has been one of the key figures at the helm of the blog team. He was our 'mover and shaker', leading the way in the relaunch of the blog at the IACL-AIDC World Congress in Seoul in June 2018. Since then, Tom has given generously of his sharp intellect, his talents and energies to establish the blog. As a result, the blog now has a truly international readership spanning across over 100 countries.  

While stepping away from his formal position at the IACL-Blog, Tom continues in his many other roles. He is carrying on in his capacity as Assistant Director of the University of Melbourne School of Government, as co-convenor of the Constitution Transformation Network (Melbourne) and as Associate Director of the Edinburgh Centre for Constitutional Law. In addition to these roles, Tom also still manages his global online research platform DEM-DEC (Democratic Decay & Renewal), presently relaunched as COVID-DEM and focusing on the impact of the COVID 19 pandemic on the state of democracy worldwide.  

We are also pleased to be able to say that the IACL Blog and DEM-DEC will remain partners. The blog will continue to publish DEM-DEC's Global Research Update, and the two platforms will keep up their mutual support of one another's work.  Despite this, all of us on the Blog team will miss working as closely with Tom, and we wish him the very best in all his future endeavors.
