Editorial: Welcome to Our New Team Member, Thenu Herath
/Today we say farewell to our Content and Comms Assistant, Steph Brenker. Since she joined us last year, Steph has made a stellar contribution to the Blog in managing our posting and social media communications, as well as being a fantastic all-round colleague. Steph has just started the bar readers’ course, and we wish her every success – we know she’ll still be one of the IACL Blog family.
We are very lucky that Thenu Herath has now joined us as our new Content and Comms Assistant. Thenu has just started the J.D. at Melbourne Law School, having finished her Bachelor of Arts (Politics and International Studies) in 2019. She has already amassed a wide range of experience in law and communications, including being selected in 2019 to join the Global Shapers Community (one of several multistakeholder communities at the World Economic Forum). She also has experience working as a legal assistant for the Roma Mitchell Human Rights Service in South Australia, and produces and hosts her own podcast, which focuses on breaking down pre-existing stereotypes about people around the world. Welcome, Thenu!
Thenu will be working particularly closely with Associate Editor Toerien van Wyk and with our Assistant Editor Julian Murphy. Julian joined us last year at the same time as Steph, and has also proved to be an invaluable asset to the team in assessing and copy editing submissions. He is a PhD researcher at Melbourne Law School with research focusing on the relationship between statutory interpretation and constitutional values. He has previously held a post-Graduate Public Interest Fellowship from Columbia Law School and, before that, worked as a Judge's Associate at the High Court of Australia.
Also joining our team, since the second half of 2019, as an ad hoc Assistant Editor, and important addition to the team is Darshan Datar. Darshan is a PhD researcher in the Laureate Programme in Comparative Constitutional Law at Melbourne Law School. He holds two LL.M degrees from the Central European University, Budapest in Comparative Constitutional Law (2015-16) and the European University Institute (2016-17). His research is focused on freedom of religion and secularism. His other research interests include constitutional theory and the intersection between constitutional law and transnational law.
Other than that, the Blog team remains the same – you can find out more about us here.
