Call for Papers: Workshop on The Impact of Neutrality on Research and Knowledge Production in Legal Scholarship

Ruhr University Bochum invites submissions for an interdisciplinary workshop examining the impact of neutrality on research and knowledge production in legal scholarship. The workshop will take place in Bochum, Germany, on 9–10 December 2026 and is aimed at early career researchers working across a range of disciplines, including law, philosophy, sociology, political science, and science and technology studies.

The workshop seeks to foster critical reflection on the role that claims of neutrality play in shaping legal scholarship and the production of knowledge. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their work with distinguished scholars in the field.

The following scholars will serve as discussants:

  • Professor Jean d’Aspremont

  • Professor Stewart Manley

  • Professor Vasuki Nesiah

  • Professor Mando Rachovitsa

The workshop is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation, and all travel and accommodation expenses for selected participants are expected to be covered.

Submission Guidelines

Interested applicants are invited to submit:

  • an abstract (maximum 500 words); and

  • a two-page curriculum vitae.
