Call for Applications: Federal Scholar in Residence Programme 2027 (Eurac Research)

Applications are now open for the Federal Scholar in Residence Programme 2027, organised by the Eurac Research Institute for Comparative Federalism (Bolzano/Bozen, Italy).

This programme offers scholars the opportunity to spend up to three weeks in residence at Eurac Research, in the heart of the Alps, engaging with an international community of experts working on comparative federalism and related fields.

About the programme

The call is open to researchers working on topics such as:

●     comparative federalism and regional autonomy;

●     intergovernmental relations and multi-level governance;

●     democratic innovation and participatory governance;

●     constitutional resilience and deliberative constitutionalism.

Successful applicants will have the opportunity to present and discuss their work with leading scholars, develop research ideas, and explore potential collaborations with the Institute.

What is offered

The programme includes:

●     a research stay of up to three weeks in 2027;

●     coverage of travel costs;

●     accommodation in Bolzano/Bozen;

●     opportunities to engage with experts and contribute to joint research initiatives;

●     the possibility of publishing in book series or journals affiliated with the Institute.

Applicants may plan their stay flexibly during 2027, although February is particularly recommended, as it coincides with the Institute’s Winter School on Federalism and Governance.

Eligibility and application

Applicants are invited to submit an unpublished or under-review paper on one of the above topics. Submissions may be in English, German, Italian, French, or Spanish.

Applications must be submitted by 1 July 2026 and should include:

●     an abstract in English;

●     a full anonymised paper;

●     a short CV;

●     a letter of motivation (maximum two pages).
