Bastion of Democracy: The Role of Courts in Navigating Democratic Governance

This year, we invite scholars from the U.S. and abroad to examine how courts function within political systems and how they respond to political pressures and shape broader political development, particularly during pivotal moments. We welcome abstracts from emerging scholars, including graduate students, across all areas and methodological approaches of public law, including but not limited to:

●     Judicial Politics & Behavior (U.S.-focused)

●     Comparative Judicial Politics

●     Law & Society

●     International Law & Supranational Governance

●     Law and Economics

●     Human Rights

●     European/EU Law & Courts

●     Legal & Constitutional Theory

Format

Participants will present in thematically organized panels, engage in peer feedback, and receive commentary from a faculty discussant. Final papers (20–30 pages) must be submitted by the end of January.

Travel Grants

We have limited funds available to support travel and housing on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants who do not have access to travel funds from their own institution should indicate on the submission form whether they wish to be considered for a travel grant.
