Hybrid Symposium: Biodiversity and Animal Law Challenges and Synergies
/9 October 2023
In person at Helsinki University and on Zoom
Co-organized by the IACL Research Group on Rights of Nature and Animals and the Helsinki Animal Law Centre, this symposium will have experts in the fields of both biodiversity and animal law present and discuss the most important themes in these fields, with a keynote by Professor of International Law Afshin Akhtar-Khavari. One of the key controversies to be explored is the constitutional status of both animals and nature, as constitutions increasingly treat these entities as "more than objects". The format is adapted to inspire lively discussions: with the speakers commenting on each other’s presentations, and more than enough time for Q&A.
Please check the preliminary programme for the confirmed speakers and the panel descriptions.
To register, please fill in the form. As this is a hybrid event, we are asking you to indicate whether you will participate in person or online. We will send you the venue details/zoom link later.
