Call for Abstracts: 3rd Asian Law Junior Faculty Workshop

Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore

Following two successful and deeply engaging Asian Law Junior Faculty Workshops, one in Singapore and the other held virtually, the Centre for Asian Legal Studies (CALS) at the National University of Singapore, Faculty of Law is pleased to announce a call for abstracts for the 3rd Asian Law Junior Faculty Workshop to be held on 26 and 27 January 2023. The Workshop allows outstanding younger scholars who work on legal topics related to Asian jurisdictions to present their work to their peers and receive critical feedback from established Asian law scholars. More information about the previous 2 Workshops can be found here: Inaugural Workshop | Workshop 2.

Submissions are invited from junior faculty members on any topic that relates to one or more Asian jurisdiction(s), as well as work that compares a topic in one or more Asian jurisdiction(s) with non-Asian jurisdiction(s). Eligible applicants should have been in a full-time academic (teaching and/or research) position (including in a post-doctoral position) for not more than 7 years as of 15 July 2022. For more information on eligibility and participation, please refer to the FAQs HERE.

Applicants shortlisted based on their abstracts will be invited to submit full length papers (in Word format) of 10,000-12,000 words (including footnotes) by 30 September 2022. Please take note that this word range will be strictly enforced to allow time for detailed and diligent reviews of the papers. Thereafter, the organizers will select between 8 to 10 participants to attend the Junior Faculty Workshop. Selected participants will receive travel funding to cover their reasonable return (economy) airfare and up to three nights’ accommodation in Singapore for the duration of the Workshop. As CALS aims to provide useful feedback at the Workshop to help scholars improve their papers, papers submitted should not have been accepted for publication at the time of the Workshop.

Please submit your application with an abstract of no more than 750 words and a brief bio HERE. Abstracts should provide an overview of the paper, its main arguments, methodology, a roadmap or outline of the paper, and how it contributes to existing scholarship. Your bio must clearly indicate your academic experience, including the cumulative number of years in your current and past academic or research positions so as to demonstrate your eligibility.

The deadline for abstract submission is 15 July 2022. For any queries, please email either Ms Suguna Jeganathan or Ms Erni Mulianie at cals@nus.edu.sg.
